Liberty State Park is a gateway to Ellis Island, the nation’s immigrant inspection and processing station from 1892 to 1954, and Liberty Island, site of the Statue of Liberty.  The park has numerous photo opportunities, including the Empty Sky 9/11 Memorial and CRRNJ Terminal building, as well as views of the Manhattan skyline, Ellis Island buildings and Statue of Liberty.

Ferries from Liberty State Park to Ellis Island and Liberty Island are operated by Statue City Cruises.  Ferry service tickets can be purchased in advance at www.statuecitycruises.com and on the meet-up day at the Statue City Cruises ticket windows in the historic CRRNJ Terminal building.  The New Jersey General Admission ferry ticket is $25 per person (ages 13 to 61) and $22 per person (ages 62 and over).  A ticket covers round trip rides to Ellis Island and Liberty Island, access to the Ellis Island and Liberty Island grounds and audio tours.   Passengers must go through an airport-like security checkpoint before boarding a ferry.  When checking ferry schedules, posted times are for entry into the Security Facility, not a specific ferry departure.

Once on Ellis Island, those wanting a unique “behind the scenes” tour of the unrestored Immigrant Hospital and grounds can reserve a spot in the Ellis Island Hard Hat Tour.  The guided tour takes 90 minutes and participants must wear hard hats.  The tour area is not ADA compliant, as some areas have stairs, narrow hallways and low ceilings.  A single tour is limited to 14 people.  Tickets can be purchased through Statue City Cruises.  The ticket price includes the ferry service to Ellis Island and Liberty Island.

  1. I would like to car pool with any one that is going. I will help pay for gas and tolls.
Personally I don’t wish to drive to NYC area. Will meet up with those that leave the area.
Also, if Mike and Tom are going on the hard hat tour I would like to join them.
Please let me know when payment is due. Thank in advance.

  2. I decided against the hard hat tour. However, I am still interested in going to the Ellis Island tour.
I would like to carpool if possible. Not interested in driving ….. but willing to share expenses. I live in Dresher, PA but willing to meet up. 609-658-1406

  3. Your ferry time depends on what you are doing for the day and how long you wish to be at Liberty Park.

If you are not going on the Hard Hat Tour then your schedule is flexible.

If you are taking the Hard Hat Tour you should buy your Hard Hat Tour ticket in advance and that ticket will include your ferry passage.
In addition, you must be at the security check-in at Liberty Island at the time specified for your Hard Hat Tour and at Ellis Island
at the specific place and time to meet your tour guide. I assume that your Hard Hat Tour ticket will give you that information.

  4. I registered and plan to be there, however, my mom is going through radiation treatment and I may need to be with her. I’ll know for sure closer to the time.
